On the day of 15th August, Gadkalewa (a place where you can enjoy Chhattisgarhi food) has opened at Mahasamund District Headquarter. From now on here too people will be able to taste Chhattisgarhi cuisine like Chila, Fara, Chousela and Thethri-Khurmi etc. Gadkalewa will be operated in the canteen located at the collectorate campus, where members of ‘Abhinav Divyang Sangh’ will serve this delicious Chhattisgarhi dishes.
On the initiative of Municipal Corporation’s Urban Livelihoods Mission and Social Welfare Department, Gadkaleva is being started to strengthen the economic condition of the members of Disabled People Organization.
The Abhinav Divyang Sangh was started about two years ago. There were only 5 people in this group. In 2019, Samerth came in contact with Abhinav Divyang Sangh, at that time the group was completely inactive.
Samerth supported the group by building their capacities on finding suitable opportunities at local level. With the help of Samerth, the group was also registered in NULM (National Urban Livelihood Mission). At the district level, some of the group members were also associated with Disabled People Organization formed by Samerth. The member of ‘Abhinav Divyang Sangh’, Savita Nishad was elected president in the district-level DPO election.
The group was exposed to different state government departments by Samerth and looked for an opportunity for them.
The search for opportunity was going on and at the same time the state government proposed to start Gadkaleva to promote Chhattisgarhi cuisine in the headquarters of all the districts. It is proposed to give self-help groups under Bihaan Scheme for operating this Gadkaleva. With the efforts of Samerth and the group, the group got the job of operating Gadkaleva in the district headquarter of Mahasamund.
Most of the people in the group were 80 percent disabled, due to which three more members were added to the group by Samerth. The group has been provided with a building to run Gadkaleva. Also, keeping in mind their convenience, a ramp has also been arranged for them.
