Kaushalya a resident of Santpali village in Basna block participated in many training/meetings organized by Samerth Charitable Trust under the Suposhan project. This project is conducted by Samerth with financial support of IGSSS.
Kaushalya took a long time to understand the method of organic fertilizers but Samerth team took time to make her understand the benefits of organic fertilizers and its uses. Once she understood the basic she came forward and started making compost manure by digging a pit for organic manure. She also started collecting cow urine and from cow urine she made insecticide and medicine for Mahu disease. After this, she planted local sarna paddy on 1-acre land and added her own organic manure and also sprayed organic fertilizer regularly.
She saved a lot of money by using organic fertilizers instead of chemical fertilizers or medicines which used to cost around INR 2500 to INR 3000. There was an increase in paddy crop cultivation as it increased from 7 quintals of paddy to 8.5 quintals. The organic fertilizers is also used to spray on vegetables like tomato, Brinjal etc.
She made a good understanding on organic farming and organic fertilizer. She was successful and using these organic fertilizers in different types of farming. Which also increased the production and saved the cost of chemical fertilizers. Due to organic farming they are eating nutritious food as well. Now she is making more manure, medicines for the future and using it in her farm and sells the remaining. The whole family is very happy.
Now Kaushalya is confident in using fertilizers and also in crop production she has done very well. The crop production was good and cost of chemical fertilizers were saved. After seeing kaushalya and her family 7 more people were inspired and started making organic fertilizers after taking information from them.
